New Zealand Fur Seal
Introduction:
New Zealand fur seals normally dive for prey for up to one or two minutes though some individuals have been know to dive to almost 400 meters and to stay underwater for more than 14 minutes in one go. Diet:
Kekeno ( Nz fur seal ) eat a variety of creatures like squid, mid water fish, conger eels, barracuda, Jack mackerel and hoki. These seals mostly forage at night, using their whiskers to locate their meals.
Predators:
Nz fur seals predators are Juvenile fur seal, Orcas, and worst of all Great White Sharks and Sevengill Sharks. But lucky they kekenos can go on land and sharks can’t. As the sharks attack the Kekeno, theKekeno swim fast as lightning
Habitat:
These Kekeno live on rocky shores and land. They sleep on land at night and what I said in the introduction they can stay underwater for more than 14 minutes in one go.
Conclusion:
A New Zealand fur seal is an excellent swimmer. Juveniles have been located at more than 1000 km from where they were born.
